Coaches
Maurice Sheppard – Rokudan – 6th degree Black Belt
Maurice is a native Newfoundlander with forty years of experience in Judo. He is a sixth-degree black belt (Rokudan) (Highest Black Belt Judoka in the Newfoundland and Labrador Judo Association) in judo and is qualified as a National Level B Judo Referee and is an NCCP level III certified coach, as well as being the Chief Referee for Newfoundland & Labrador. He is also a member of the provincial and Atlantic Black Belt Grading Boards. He is the Head Coach and self-defence instructor for our club and has been a coach or manager for the Newfoundland and Labrador male judo team at numerous Canada Winter Games. Sensei Sheppard is also a former national and international Judo competitor and brings vast coaching and competitive experience to the MUN club. He was the first person to carry the Olympic Torch in November 2007 in the Olympic Torch Relay (started in St. John’s) for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. He regularly runs and strength trains and is constantly doing coaching seminars to help the MUN Judo athletes and coaching staff. He is the Chief Instructor of our club.
Ed Quinn – Nidan – 2nd degree Black Belt
Ed has a long history with judo and specializes in coaching teenage club members. He is a certified Dojo Instructor in judo.
